Community and environment - spreading the vision and education for sustainability

21.   Establishment of an urban sustainability center on the roof of the Chin, with professional partners, emphasizing urban nature and urban agriculture.

The center includes:

ü  A beehive complex on the roof - biodynamic beekeeping in the natural way - a project to restore the disappearing bees to the city and its surroundings.

ü  Hotel for insects - to maintain biodiversity and support insect populations in urban areas.

ü  A farm for growing vegetables using hydroponic and aquaponic methods - urban agriculture that saves transportation from the village to the city, saves water, vegetables grown without pesticides and other ecological benefits. The original farm was closed and now we have an educational farm.

ü  The farm's agricultural produce is donated to food associations and to the company employees, and sometimes is sold at the food market.

ü  Neighborhood "vegetables picking event" once in a while, and distribution of agricultural produce to neighbors.

ü  Urban nature - a pollen garden.

ü  A growing "Green Roof" garden to reduce the heat created by the urban heat island, stopping surface runoff and lowering the temperature on the floor below the roof.

ü  A center for growing spirulina - super food - an attempt was made to establish and now it is being rebuilt.

ü  Home biogas system - turning organic materials into gas and fertilizer, beneficial use of methane gas emissions for cooking.

ü  Red worm composter - from organic waste to fine fertilizer.

ü  Distribution of organic fertilizer to neighbors.

ü  Swifts nests and nesting boxes for chaffinches (planning for the future: birds park).

ü  For 9 years -yearly "One tree" project - a planting project with the participation of about 1500 children from the surrounding schools, to offset carbon emissions. After growing the trees one year in the "trees nursery" on the roof, donating the trees for planting in local authorities, youth villages and areas affected by fires.

ü  Information and conservation center for fruit bats - working in collaboration with a bat researcher from Tel Aviv University, and supporting the protected bat population.

ü  The fifth front - the park is open to the public during the mall's operating hours - the sustainability center on the roof is a recreation and meeting area for teenagers and families, a place to breathe in the middle of the city.

22.   Establishment of a sustainability school that includes a series of enrichment classes in the field of sustainability - society and environment - for school children, holding an eco-agriculture curriculum for elementary & high school students.

23.    Courses, tours and workshops for the general public on the topics of urban sustainability, beekeeping and urban agriculture and revealing a vision that exists for thousands of children, discovery groups, retirees and delegations from Israel and the world.

24.   Free tours for disadvantaged populations (non-profit organizations, special education, youth at risk, etc.).

25.   Tours of dozens of local authorities, municipalities, businesses and organizations as a source of inspiration.

26.   Visits by ambassadors and journalists from around the world and preparation of a video by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a project that represents Israel in the field of sustainability, including the COP26 conference in Glasgow.

27.   "Bat Week" - a series of events for the general public - tours, lectures and a photo exhibition to raise awareness of fruit bats.

28.    International Roofs day (6/6) – a "Green Roof" Festival - to promote the social/cultural/agricultural/urban nature use of roofs, to support the utilization of the "fifth front".

Community activity with the neighborhoods

29.   Community activity with the neighborhoods with the assistance of the municipality – "white night", recycling costumes for "Purim" holiday.

30.   Subsidized classes for the third age (folk dances, bridge, walking groups).

31.   Allocation of space for free activities for the surrounding community (breakdance and other sports circles), space for fundraising of non-profit organizations, awareness days for cancer detection, blood donations and finding bone marrow donors, activities to integrate people with disabilities.

32.   Children's sales fair – "Kidishuk".

Small businesses and social organizations

33.   Pop-ups for small businesses/starting artists/designers/fairs for young businesses.

34.   Use of the center's media - publishing videos on the bridges over Dizengoff St. - worth tens of thousands of NIS to promote environmental goals - the climate march, the climate forest and more.

35.   Use of social organizations (NGO's) for storage in the mall areas – "Do not stand by", Eliphelet (for refugees children), Israeli Solidarity and more.

36.  Support of free press.

37.   Activity with private associations: adoption days for dogs/cats, construction of a shelter for street cats.

38.   Social Gallery - Dozens of exhibitions a year by young artists, emphasis on environmental/social issue (for free).

39.   Hosting dozens of non-profit organizations that raised money and means to promote social goals.

40.  Donating food from the food market to food associations for over 24 years, about 19 tons per year.

41. Sustainability festival - in collaboration with organizations, associations and suppliers from the environmental / social world.

42.   Awarding a "green note" to the restaurants in collaboration with the Tel Aviv Municipality, to encourage businesses from the food sector committed to environmental management

43. "The Salon" - a designed gathering room at a nominal price / free of charge for associations and social organizations.

Sustainable Fashion

46.   Support for the "Restart Fashion" course of the "Shenkar School of Fashion" to promote sustainable fashion - through scholarships and hosting the students' graduation show.

47.  Support for non-profit organizations in the field of fashion that sustains – "Dress up for November"/Wizzow/fairs for second hand, holding clothes swap parties.

48.  "Dressing up" festival once a year to promote sustainable fashion.

49.  Continuous support for the LGBT community - dedicated events, LGBT fashion show, receiving the first "LGBT badge" in the country.

50.   Participation, accompaniment and support in pride parades.

Energy & Greenhouse Gas (GhG) Emissions

51.   Savings in electricity/money of over a million NIS per year.

52.   Switching to the consumption of electricity produced from natural gas (significant savings in greenhouse gas emissions and financial savings).

53.   Initiatives to save energy:

ü  Replacing the chillers in the air conditioning system

ü Replacing the lighting with economical lighting

ü  Replacement of pumps an frequency transformers

ü  Installation of a command and control system that allows optimization of energy consumption.

54.  Use of natural lighting - an insulated skylight ceiling that illuminates most of the atrium

58.   Voluntary annual GhG emissions report to the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

59.   Starting in 2014, planting trees to offset our carbon emissions.

Thanks to energy efficiency + carbon offset through planting - a decrease from 7218 tons of carbon in 2014, to 2591 tons of carbon in 2021.

Waste - Recycling and Reuse

60.   Industrial composter - Installation of an industrial composter that handles about half a ton of organic waste per day. In cooperation with the local supermarket, Tel Aviv Municipality, Ecodram. Financial and expensive savings for the local authority, reduction of transporting the waste to landfills, reduction of air pollution and especially prevention of methane gas emissions (greenhouse gas).

61.   Cardboard recycling - about a ton of cardboard per day!

62.   Recycling of electronic waste - with the cooperation of the residents of the neighborhood - collection of the waste, and transfer to recycling / renew.

63.   Recycling of paper collected from the offices.

64.   Converting the cleaning department into a recycling and cleaning department - a self image and pride of the workers, improving their status.

65.   Reuse - sale of used cartons for house moves, 90% of the revenue is transferred to the employees of the recycling and cleaning department.

66.   Sale of wooden and metal surfaces for reuse – 90% of the revenue are transferred to the employees of the recycling and cleaning department.
